Our truck and vans were parked on the street near the entrance of an elementary school in Ishinomaki that is being used as an evacuation center. The lots across from the school were strewn with trash and cars that has been tossed there by the tsunami. We unloaded the goods for the school and were visiting with the workers unaware that we had blocked a small car that was parked on the lot from being able to exit.
A young mother with a baby on her back came out of the school and got in to the car. After moving our vans to allow her to leave, we gave her a bag of apples to apologize for the inconvenience. As she looked at the apples, a smile appeared on her face and tears filled her eyes. She explained that her young daughter had not had any fruit or vegetables since the earthquake/tsunami hit. Seeing her joy over receiving a small bag of apples brought tears to our eyes as well.
A Baptist Global Response representative reported today that Tokyo Baptist Church had a team that fed 3000 people their first hot meal since the earthquake/tsunami hit. The people wept with thanksgiving as they were served a hot meal. Two people prayed to receive Christ as the Christians from this church followed Christ’s example of servanthood. Pray for the Christians in that church who will be going again and again to minister to those in need.
Pray for God to lead us to those who may otherwise fall through the cracks and not receive the help they need. Pray for Christians far and near to reach out to those in need!!!
