Where will we live?

The black house on the left  that is leaning precariously  is Mr. Ta’s house near Watanoha in Ishimaki, a city that was nearly destroyed by the March 11 tsunami. The ground near the water sunk over 60 centimeters so each day when high tide comes the water reaches up to the knees of a grown man. The front of Mr. Ta’s house leans precariously while the back half has been totally washed away. He and his parents are living with his brother near by on the second floor. The community leader lives across the street and his house was flooded up to the second floor.

The people in the picture used to live in this neighborhood and they come back to live in these damaged houses rather than live in evacuation centers where there is no privacy. However, because the water rises up to their knees at high tide they have to evacuate each day when the tide comes in. They receive only a small amount of supplies since they are not in the evacuation centers and are thankful for the relief supplies that we bring in to them.

The community leader said the people are waiting for the government to tell them whether or not they can rebuild. If they can rebuild then many volunteers will be needed to help them mud out their homes and clean up their yards. Right now the children are playing among the piles of rubble. It is dangerous and dirty.

Pray for the Christians who go into the area to take food and need supplies. Pray they will be filled with God’s spirit and that their lives will reflect the fruits of the spirit bringing honor to Christ.
