Koriyama
Koriyama City is located about 200 kilometers northeast of Tokyo in the center of the Nakadori region of Fukushima Prefecture. It is readily accessible from the Tohoku Expressway which runs from Tokyo to Sendai. The city has approximate 350,000 people living there. Several small universities are there, including the college of Engineering of Nihon University. Including surrounding cites that are easily accessible (Aizuwakamatsu, Iwaki, and Fukushima) would bring the population of the area to approximately 1 million.
The city, formerly know as the Saska district. was founded in September 1924 and has a rich history, Presently, the city is designated as a core city and a commercial center in Fukushima Prefecture as well as being the second biggest conurbation in the Tohoku District. Koriyama is an important point because it located center of Fukushima Prefecture and it is linked to many cities like Tokyo, Sendai, Fukushima, Niigata and Iwaki. The city is a hub developed for the railway and the expressways.
Koriyama is near the mountain range which crosses Japan from west to east and the Adatara Mountains are to the north, Lake Inawashiro is to the west. Lake Inawashiro is the forth largest lake in Japan and is known for having the cleanest water. The Abukuma River flows through downtown Koriyama so the city is blessed with natural resources. The city is situated in a temperate zone so a dry wind blows throughout the year.
