December, 2008 to January, 2009 for KFC

January 20, 2009

Christmas, 2008, seems like a long time ago now. But we did have opportunities for outreach. A-san, our house church member, introduced us to several of her friends. We all gathered together for Christmas Candlelight worship. Using house-church style worship, we read scripture for an interactive Bible study. It was the story of the visit of the Magi. When invited to answer some questions related to the story, these young adults thought it was too difficult for them, and they did not know how to respond.

Each person also received a piece of paper, and was invited to write down what they want to give to Jesus for Christmas. These notes will be sent to them at a later date. Pray that this worship experience was a catalyst to make these young Japanese adults begin searching for God. Pray that they will not rest until they find the one true God, and Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

One new friend, Kay, began reading our gift, The Purpose Driven Life.  After reading the first seven days, she said she had to stop reading, because she cannot believe in God. But her honesty and willingness to share are a sign that she is still open. Pray that Kay will remain open. Pray that God will use the book and our relationship to help her find purpose in Christ.

A young wife with a young child lets Nancy come visit when she has time. Each time they talk about things of faith and/or read the Bible. Pray that these times will lead to her having a boldness to decide for faith in Christ, in spite of possible opposition from family members.

On the very last day of 2009, God blessed us with the arrival of two new co-workers. Phouxay and Bouasy Sengmany are a three-year ISC couple, who are now adjusting to Japan. They are eager to learn as much Japanese as possible, and share their faith with Japanese. Pray for their adjustment, and for God to provide many divine encounters for them, as they explore their new environment, praying as they go.

We thank you for your prayers, and ask you to join us in praying that God will make the following promise come true for the cities of Fukuoka and Kitakyushu: Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise, and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.     Jeremiah 33:9
