Busy in Okayama

February 1, 2009

January was a busy month for the new missionary family, the Shadburnes, in Okayama. This young family meets each Sunday morning at  Starbucks for worship. The “church that meets at Starbucks” started with their family and has grown by two as a mother and son now join them each week. This family lives in the nearby city of Kurashiki and have mentioned that they would love for the Shadburnes to train them how to start a church in their city. Two girls that have returned recently from the states are interested in knowing more about Jesus. Pray for them to come to Christ.

Extra time and weekends are filled spending time with new people they meet. They have met parents from their oldest son’s day care and new neighbors. They report that three ladies from Starbucks are coming over the first week in February week to spend some time with them outside of work. Please be praying for these first meetings that the Shadburnes would show boldness and loving kindness that only comes from Christ.

Even as the Shadburnes try to find any and every opportunity to witness and build new relationships, the bulk of their time is still spent learning Japanese. This past month they have been focused on learning verbs and adjectives and can now say how great and good God is. Please be praying for their Japanese study, that they will retain what they learn, and stay motivated and excited to do the homework. Pray that every word they learn can be remembered and used to meet new people, to take care of family needs, to share the good new of Jesus and that those who are touched by their lives will truly see how great and good God is.

I’m interested in finding out if the church meeting at “Starbucks” is still going on. I visit Okayama (near train station) often, and would love to find out more about which Starbucks to go to and worship our Lord on Sundays. God bless you and your ministry.
