Eager to Know More

August 29, 2006

A report from a young Christian leading worship.

The Holy Spirit was moving all through the worship We read John 9:1-12 and shared thoughts and questions. Mo San asked what verses 4-5 meant. At first he thought that Jesus spoke those words to everybody and what Jesus said in verse 5 was for him, too. We looked at verse 2 and he understood it was spoken to those who follow Jesus. From that point on, he started asking questions and was eager to figure out what Christians believe.

We talked about what sin is, how Jesus paid for our sin on the cross and how He was raised from the dead and lives even now, so those who believe in Him have eternal life. When we said relying on ourselves instead of God was sin, he was surprised. He was even shocked to learn that God wants us to fully rely on Him, because it was totally different from the value system he’d grown up with. He wanted to know how the goal and purpose of your life changes if you believe in Jesus.

We said God will guide us so we’ll be able to live according to the purpose of our lives with which God our Creator-Owner is pleased. We looked at John 10:10 (We happened to sing a praise song on Psalm 23 at the beginning of the worship :-) ) to see Jesus’ promise to give His sheep, those who believe him, abundant life. “That’s a Copernican shift in viewing everything! How could it be okay just to rely on God instead of yourself? I think it takes something for me to fully understand it.” He was so eager to know more.

We explained that Christianity is not a religion. Being a Christian is having a relationship between you and Jesus. We looked at different verses in the Bible and saw how God loves us and that salvation through Jesus is a free gift. Mo san said he finally understood why his wife changed so much since she became a Christian. He’s seen her pray about everything, which was not part of her life before at all. He’s teased her saying it is too convenient for you if all you have to do is just pray and ask God for help without giving Him anything in return. But he said he was getting to understand why his wife always prayed and thanked God for everything. He said he wanted to know more.

Please pray for Mo san and his family and friends to come to Christ and a new church. Pray for his wife who is a new Christian and eager to share her faith. Pray that soon this couple will be one in Christ and that God will use them to reach many for Christ.
