Hot Hot Hot

August 12, 2007

This week has been hot hot hot!!! Today after worship we went with a group to Asakusa Temple area where we saw people lazily walking up and down the streets wearing yukatas (summer cotton kimonos) They were eating snow cones or chewing on a piece of squid or a perserved locust. Ugh!!!

This is the middle of Obon, the summer festival, and many folks are off work and enjoying time with their families. During this time they visit their hometowns, the shrines and temples and the graves of their deceased loved ones. Pray their eyes will be opened to the truth as they go through rituals that have no meaning, as they remember their loved ones, and think about life and life after death.

We rode the ”water bus” down the river, observed the crowds and looked at the vastness of Tokyo. This city is very different than the regional cities, towns and villages where we usually work. As we looked at the apartments crowded next to one another, we were reminded of the multitudes of Japanese in Tokyo who have yet to hear the gospel

Our group was large, and since it was hot, hot , hot, we took taxis to the station. During that short ride, each of the three taxi drivers heard a witness about our living Lord. Pray that the Holy Spirit will use that witness to draw them to Christ.

We’re always looking ahead and in the near future we see three teams of volunteers coming to serve with JGPNetwork. One each in September, October and November. Teams will be coming to prayer walk, distribute literature with our JCTV personnel as well.  Ask God to use the witness of these volunteers to encourage and challenge our believers. Also pray that God will lead them to special encounters with those who have never heard the gospel.
