Harvest Time
October 4, 2009
The other day we were driving through the countryside outside the city and noticed that the farmers have begun to harvest their rice. After the harvesting comes the burning of the chaff left in the rice paddies. As I watched the smoke rise from several rice paddies our city, Utsunomiya, I thought of John the Baptists’ words about Jesus in Matthew 3:12, “His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Most Japanese do not know about Jesus and His death for them on the cross. We don’t want them to be part of the “chaff” that will be burned with unquenchable fire. Pray with us that the Japanese in Utsunomiya will be part of the multitude from every tribe and tongue that will gather around Jesus’ throne to sing praises to our Savior who is worthy of all glory, honor and praise.
