Seeing Jesus Lifted Up

June 3, 2008

Recently, sitting in the park on the grounds of the castle here in Utsunomiya, I read John 3:14-15 where Jesus utters these words, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”  Throughout this chapter in the book of John, Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus what it was going to take to bring about eternal salvation.  Jesus himself was going to be lifted up before the people, and whoever would just look to him and believe would find that salvation. Could it really be that easy?
Look to Jesus and believe.  It may seem like a straightforward concept to those of us in Christ, but for many people it just doesn’t make sense.  So many of the people here in Utsunomiya don’t even know the story of Jesus to begin with.  For those who are somewhat familiar with it, they merely regard it as just that, another nice story.  Please pray with me for the people of Utsunomiya.  Pray that the greatest story of all would take on real meaning in their lives.  Pray that God will reveal to them the truth of his holy Word.  May Jesus be exalted throughout this city and throughout all of Japan.  May the people look to him, believe, and be saved!
