The “Darumas” are out!!

February 16, 2010

There were 2 festival days in Utsunomiya in January where the merchants came out selling their “daruma”s for the new year.   The Japanese believe these darumas bring good fortune and success for the new year.

It is a great opportunity to walk through the stalls and engage in conversation with the merchants inquiring into the meaning and worthiness of a papier-mache doll.  A few of the merchants believe it, but a few are stumped and speechless when somewhat challenged about their beliefs.  How very sad to trust a man-made doll for your future!   The colored dolls below are for specific requests (safety, good grades, business success, health, etc.).

Please keep praying the Japanese will see the hopelessness of their own creations, and will seek the true living God that can take care of all their needs.
